There Goes the Neighborhood
(Sci-Fi/Thriller Script)

Overview

There Goes the Neighborhood is a half-hour sci-fi short film about the impact – and even horror – gentrification can have on Black communities. The short was entered into The Pan African Film Festival / City of Los Angeles John Singleton embRace L.A. Short Film Competition. The competition invites Black filmmakers to submit a >30 minute script of any genre that reflects some aspect of Black American life and was created in tribute to the late legendary filmmaker John Singleton (Boyz in the Hood, Higher Learning, etc.) The short was written by M. Skylar Ezell, and the story by Ezell, Remound Wright III, and Xavier Byers. Should we get the opportunity to film, the short will be co-directed by Ezell and Wright, and produced by Xavier Byers.

LOGLINE: A young Black couple find themselves in a race against time as their gentrifying neighborhood – and its residents –  are inexplicably replaced by some unseen, yet terrifyingly powerful force.
