Hello! I’m M. Skylar Ezell, a writer, filmmaker, and communications strategist hailing from North Florida (think Alabama, but with better beaches), currently based in sunny Los Angeles, CA (they didn’t tell me about the $5 gas…). I’m a proud graduate of Georgia State University, where I majored in Journalism/Public Relations, with a minor in Music Business. However, don’t ask me to play the piano as my senior year instructor forbade me from ever playing the piano if I wanted a passing grade. I still remember the scales though!

I’m a creative writer to my very core, and I’ve been very fortunate to not only express that side of me in my screenwriting/filmmaking and journalism work, but also infuse it into my corporate communications career. That’s why I consider myself to be a Corporate Creative, a professional who leans into their creative talents and ambitions to achieve and exceed business goals. I’ve guided internal and external communications strategy for individual clients and at Fortune 500 companies like AT&T, DIRECTV, and MGM Resorts International. But my most exciting adventure is yet to come!

When serving as a freelance journalist, my beats typically are TV/Film entertainment, book reviews, and social/political news. I’ve interviewed award-winning actors, directors, etc., and covered presidential election news for sites like Parle Magazine and Black Nerd Problems. When serving as a Technical Writer or Copywriter/ Copy Editor, I carefully fine tune my writing style to fit the needs my clients. FILMMAKER

As a screenwriter/filmmaker, my genres of expertise are science fiction, fantasy, and comedy. I love characters that are flawed or even “broken”, but still reflect the complexities of human nature. Life is rarely if ever 100% black and white, and I enjoy shining a light on the various shades of grey. This often draws me to characters who are marginalized in their own respective worlds, be they the reality we live in or some fantastic, far off place that exists only in imagination.
